Job Description
Apple is looking for a Human Factors engineer/UX researcher to apply user-centered design principles to the design and development of Apple audio products.
This role requires working at the intersection of many disciplines, on a variety of projects and with multiple partners. Curiosity to delve into new domains, the ability to learn from cross- functional, often highly technical partners and quick thinking are key.
Ideal candidates have 3+ years industry experience focused on comfort, fit, or ergonomic interaction with products, with the ability to anticipate, study and observe user interactions. They are technical, able to utilize and customize quantitative log collection, while also intuitively relating to the user and applying their intuition.
Description
• Apply Human Factors Engineering (HFE) techniques and principles at all phases of product/technology development
• Exercise independent judgment in development of study methodology, data collection efforts, data analysis, conclusions, and design recommendations
• Develop user study criteria and detailed methodology for projects which focus on product comfort and span from formative to evaluative and qualitative to quantitative
• Conduct user-centered research and evaluation on a diverse user population utilizing experimental data and scientific publications
• Conduct statistical and qualitative analyses of data and provide clear and concise feedback to teams in a timely manner
• Collaborate cross-functionally with design, engineering, and product development groups.
• Maintain an active working knowledge of worldwide human factors publications and standards
Minimum Qualifications
- • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, patience, and aesthetic sensibility
- • Passion for assessing and enhancing ergonomic interaction, comfort, and fit of products while accounting for human variability
- • Experience or desire to learn about ear anatomy
- • Expertise in creating thorough experimental designs, utilizing scientific methods
- • Expertise in conducting usability studies and interview techniques related to product use is required
- • Mixed methods expertise to combine quantitative and qualitative research approaches
- • Ability to customize data collection tools, as well as manipulate, analyze and visualize outputs
- • Relevant proven experience in human factors and/or consumer product usability evaluation is required.
- • Ability to distill research insights into presentations for engineers and designers in a concise way
- • Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s or doctorate preferred) with a concentration or extensive work in human factors, industrial engineering, cognitive engineering, human-computer interaction, or experimental psychology.
- • Must have at least 3 years industry experience focused on comfort, fit, or ergonomic interaction with products

- At least two from the following list:
- - Expertise of survey development and deployment
- - Experience with scripting/programming for data manipulation and research applications (e.g., R, Matlab, Python)
- - Expertise with biometric data systems (eye tracking, EEG, GSR)
- - Expertise with motion capture systems
- - Experience with photogrammetry
- - Experience with CAD and modeling techniques used by collaborators (e.g. FEA, parametric modeling, NURBS)

- At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $143,100 and $264,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
