Essential Functions:
Duties & Responsibilities
Instruction:
Provide direct instruction to English language learners.
Utilize existing curriculum and collaborate with the team to develop and refine curriculum.
Subjects may include ESL, Citizenship, Computer Skills, Vocational Training, Job Readiness, Adult Basic Education, High School Equivalency Exam Preparation, and Family Literacy.
Create a welcoming, engaging, and supportive learning environment, whether online or in-person.
Offer instruction based on program needs and participant requirements.
Collaborate with team members to ensure continuity and adequate support for all students.
Program Administrative Support:
Track attendance for each session and record individual and group progress as required.
Administer pre/post-tests to students as schedules allow.
Conduct intake interviews with new students.
Assist with program administrative duties during non-instructional time as needed.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma is required.
A minimum of two (2) years of teaching or tutoring experience is required.
Relevant lived experience in refugee resettlement or forced migration is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Multilingual skills are strongly preferred.
Comfortable working with diverse populations.
Flexible and adaptable to various class settings and student skill levels.
Excellent communication skills with experience in building relationships and collaborating with diverse teams.
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information professionally and diplomatically.
Strong collaboration skills, emotional intelligence, self-motivation, and analytical abilities.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Outlook/Exchange, Windows operating systems, and commonly used software.
Problem-solving skills and the ability to interpret a variety of instructions in different formats.
Ability to work independently and stay motivated with minimal supervision.
Strong strategic thought partnership and consultancy skills.
Work Arrangement:
This role is eligible for a hybrid or remote work arrangement. If hybrid, there will be an expectation to meet for in-person meetings as needed. Regular in-person meetings may be required, along with opportunities to work from home when appropriate.
Work Environment:
The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.
The position may require working nights and weekends.
Employees may need to remain on-site during breaks or meal periods and may be required to stay until their replacement arrives.
Physical Demands:
Regularly required to talk and hear.
Frequently required to sit, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
Occasionally required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
