Position Summary:
The UNC Asheville Environmental Specialist assists with environmental programs within Campus Operations. The UNC Asheville Campus Operations department has been a leader in environmental programs within the University system for many years. Environmental sustainability is a core component of the University's strategic plan.
Under the direction of the Grounds Manager this position has the primary responsibility for all aspects of the Waste Reduction and Recycling Program managed by Campus Operations. This program requires an, organized, and enthusiastic person to lead the campus community towards a goal of zero waste. This position will work with members of the campus community, including faculty, staff and students, to increase participation and awareness of all aspects of waste minimization.
In addition, the environmental specialist will have responsibilities in other existing programs including, but not limited to, Bee Campus, Tree Campus, Invasive species management, stormwater management, campus wide tree inventory.
Duties also include: program development, data collection, data entry and reporting. The Environmental Specialist will assist the Design and Construction Department, especially during construction projects, to audit waste streams and other environmentally related construction issues.
Minimum Education/Experience/Skill :
Bachelor's degree in an agriculture, biological, engineering, environmental, natural resources sciences or related discipline and one year of experience that demonstrates possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Bachelor's degree in an agriculture, biological, engineering, environmental, natural resources sciences or related discipline is preferred. The ideal candidate will have one to three years of job related experience with environmental issues and/or sustainability. Previous experience in recycling coordination, waste reduction procedures, storm water management, land management and/or related environmental issues is a plus.
A valid driver's license is highly preferred.
Ability to operate computer software to include but not limited to Windows, Microsoft word, Microsoft excel.
