REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Environmental Specialist in the Environmental Planning section of the Aviation Development Division. High Deductible Health Plan - bi-weekly premiums:

The Aviation Department which operates the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and the North Perry Airport is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Environmental Specialist for the Aviation Planning Division. The Environmental Specialist will be responsible for conducting environmental compliance inspections, performing regulatory agency coordination and maintaining permits. Airport environmental projects include projects and studies related to noise abatement, hazardous waste storage and disposal, storm and wastewater drainage, surface and ground water quality, air quality, wetland mitigation, environmental permitting and related environment issue projects. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast paced and dynamic environment. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in environmental sciences, environmental planning or closely related field. Requires two (2) years in environmental/natural resource program compliance or closely related experience. Special Certifications and Licenses Professional Engineer, Professional Geologist or other applicable professional license ACI Airport Environmental or other applicable certification Preferences PhD Environmental Science, Aviation, or Related field
MS Environmental Science, Aviation, or Related field
Knowledge and/or experience with FAA and Environmental rules/regulations including aviation noise, wetlands, hazardous materials, storm water, soil/groundwater assessments, air quality
Four (4) years of experience in environmental/natural resource program compliance or closely related experience
Aviation/Airport Experience

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary. Manages projects and consultant coordination including project critical paths, organizing field work, project update meetings; renews/procures contracts, proposals and agreements; provides administrative project management, invoicing review, payment processing, retainage release, and final payment/project close-out. Conducts environmental compliance inspections; performs regulatory agency coordination for environmental compliance inspections; maintains regulatory permits necessary for continued operation. Receives and responds to noise complaints and inquiries; conducts and coordinates tenant inspections. Utilizes/analyzes data specific to current site conditions from laboratory analysis of soil/groundwater site samples to guide the progression of remediation/mitigation at related environmental projects; creates reports from this data and the analysis for which remediation techniques would best be utilized are weighted on a project to project basis depending on site characterization and contamination profiles. Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills; be able to function and supervise in a complex environment Performs related work as assigned.
